Ajaccio, the Imperial City

The symposium will be held in the beautiful French Mediterranean Island of Corsica, more precisely in the lively, elegant town of Ajaccio. Ajaccio, the Capital of Corsica, dominates the panorama of the same named bay at the western coast of the island. Ajaccio is linked to the history of the Bonaparte Family and is the birthplace of Napoleon in 1769.

Ajjacio

Besides the surrounding lovely natural landscape Ajaccio is famous for its magnificent buildings. The whole history of Ajaccio, beginning from its Genoese origins over its importance as a bathing resort for the rich through to the birthplace of the two imperial Napoleon Bonapartes, lead to the construction of quite a number of imposing buildings.

  • If you are interested in art, you can visit the Fesch Museum, which after the Louvre possesses one of the most important collections of Italian paintings from the 14th to the 19th centuries.
